Dolly

We have rules when we purchase horses. 

Nothing over 16.2 hands - that's a big horse.

No blacks - call it superstition, but it's a color we typically avoid.

And then we met Dolly. 

A 17.1 hand black mare who managed to make us forget all fo those rules!

There is somethign about this mare. 

Dolly's early life wasn't being polished in a show barn. She was raised by an Amish family in Missouri who had owned her since she was a yearling. Most of her life has been spent in the fields as a workhorse before someone in the family decided that her quiet disposition and good nature might make her a good riding horse. 

They were right and she was eventually started under saddle!

It's worth mentioning that the girls would use her in the garden because of how easy and gentle she was to work with! 

This background shows in all of the best ways. She's incredibly easy to have around and be around! There is no nonsense or unnecessary fuss. You can tie her anywhere and she will stand. I've worked her at liberty in the arena, left and came back later to her still standing in the same spot, exactly where I left her! 

That alone wasn't what made us break all the rules with her. 

We rode her. 

For a mare that stands 17.1 hands, Dolly has an extrordinary way of going! She has a God given gift! Her movement is naturally balanced, collected and incredibly smooth, she makes you feel like you are floating!

You can train a lot of things on a horse, but when you start out this gifted, your job is to stay out of the way. 

She comes to us with an honest foundation & a lifetime of experience we are not able to offer. (Field work.) Our job now is to refine what is already naturally there and make her even more elete.  

What have we learned from Dolly so far:

• Buy the horse that makes you stop and look twice.

• Break the rules.

• Trust your feeling when your gut says, there's something about this one.
